David Stearns was named the new general manager of the Milwaukee Brewers on September 21, 2015. Stearns changed half of the players on the Brewers’ 40-man roster in his first offseason in the role.
In his early trades, he traded for Jonathan Lucroy and bought Anthony Swarzak, Travis Shaw and Eric Thames. Stearns received a contract extension from the Brewers in January 2019 and was promoted to general manager and president of baseball operations.

Stearns was highly regarded by many MLB teams. In the past, the New York Mets were listed as a team interested in his services, but Stearns said he was no longer really interested in working in the front office of another team.
He was also responsible for executing the deal that sent Christian Yelich from Miami to Milwaukee. When the Brewers made it to the NL Championship Series in 2018, Yelich was voted NL MVP.
