Lionsgate has completed production on its highly anticipated The hunger Games prequel movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents. The upcoming film is based on the dystopian young adult novel of the same name by author Suzanne Collins and revolves around a young version of Coriolanus Snow, the main antagonist of the hunger games trilogy starring Donald Sutherland.
Tom Blyth takes on the role of Coriolanus Snow for The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpentswith the hunger games director Francis Lawrence helms the Lionsgate project. Blyth co-star Rachel Zegler announced the film was finished with a message on her official Twitter page.
Besides Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents also includes Hunter Schafer, Jason Schwartzman, Peter Dinklage, Viola Davis, Burn Gorman, Fionnula Flanagan, and Josh Andres Rivera, among many others. Suzanne Collins worked on the screenplay alongside Michael Arndt and Michael Lesslie.
The hunger Games centered on Katniss Everdeen’s rising popularity in a televised battle royale deathmatch and her subsequent leadership role in the uprising against a fascist government. Lionsgate has released four films based on the novels, starring Academy Award-winning Jennifer Lawrence as Everdeen opposite Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks. The film series has collectively grossed nearly $3 billion at the global box office.

Years before he becomes the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope of his dwindling bloodline, a once-proud family that has fallen out of favor in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, young Snow is alarmed when he is named a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute of impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray gets the full attention of Panem singing defiantly during the harvest ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their showmanship instincts and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird and who is a snake.
