Since the billionaire made his presence known to the world, there hasn’t been a day on the Internet where he hasn’t been talked about. Whether it’s his brilliant self-driving cars, the baffling name he gave his son, or SpaceX, Elon Musk knows how to get people talking. Its recent acquisition of Twitter is no less of a hot topic either.
Just a few days ago, Elon Musk received backlash from Twitter users and celebrities alike when he announced an $8 monthly blue verification checkmark fee. Even author Stephen King didn’t believe it! Well, he is under discussion again as he plans to make the entire social media platform accessible only for a fee.

Twitter, like any other social media platform, is free to join and use anywhere. Well, that could change very soon as Elon Musk is now sitting at the head of the table at Twitter headquarters. According to Platformer, Musk plans to put the entirety of Twitter behind a paywall. This is different from Twitter’s subscriptions and $8 fee. Users will need to have a paid subscription to even access the platform, should Musk go along with the idea.
Apparently, Musk and his adviser, David Sacks, discussed the idea in recent meetings. This plan to set up a paywall could notably allow users to access Twitter for a limited time each month. However, once their time is up, they have to dip into their pockets and pay a monthly subscription. This is another of Musk’s attempts to monetize the platform.
Former employees blasted Musk saying the fundamentals of the business just weren’t there. However, as we all know by now, it’s either Musk’s way or the highway and so, if he’s planning to put the paywall in place, then consider it already set.
As for when, how, and how much, users will have to wait for further updates since the Twitter team has yet to make an official statement.

The disappointments and worries of Twitter users are certainly no surprise. While some might not have a problem signing up for a subscription, a majority of users feel differently. As soon as the rumors found their way to the public, people took no time and voiced their opinions on the platform.

Whether this is a good step for Twitter or not can only be resolved if the paywall actually becomes a reality. However, with major advertisers pulling out of Twitter and the platform facing a massive debt burden, it’s quite possible that Musk is racking his brains right now as Twitter explodes in concern.
Twitter users better get all their opinions out in the open before the serial entrepreneur decides to put his plan into action.
