Frank, the eldest of five children, dropped out of school at 14 with only “a 25m swimming certificate” to his name.
His initial position was as an apprentice farm tractor mechanic. Yet at age 19, after graduating from town and mechanical engineering guilds, he became a bulldozer mechanic on the M62 construction project. He then earned his living as a mechanic in the copper mines of Zambia and as a supervisor of the Dubai Dry Dock project.
At the age of 28, Frank founded Manchester Cabins from his home in Royton.
He said of the business: “Twenty years ago they changed the direction of their business to become a rental company that builds its cabins.” His company made affordable and cheerful mobile construction houses. “They are also the leading manufacturer and national supplier of bunk cabin units in the market.” These are mobile dormitories with a bed, shower, toilet, sink, microwave and fridge that are designed to allow people to stay and sleep where they need to.
