5 Things The Devil In Me Can Learn From Other Games In The Dark Pictures Anthology

There are a number of things that The devil in me can learn from previous games in The Dark Pictures Anthology ahead of its release later this month. Although most gamers enjoyed the previous entry; Ash house, both Medan Man and little hope received harsh reviews after their respective releases. Whether The devil in me can learn where these titles went wrong and avoid these pitfalls, maybe it will be better received.

5. Don’t take too long to get in on the action

Medan Man is the specific Dark Pictures Anthology title who is most guilty of it. Although the second half of this game got exciting once the action finally started, it took a long time to get there. Instead of wasting too much time anticipating scares, it would be better if The devil in me was exciting from the start.

There is a fine line between creating atmosphere and boring your audience. Let’s just hope Supermassive learned the difference between the two with their new title.

4. Make sure player choices feel important

In games like Until dawn and The career, it seemed that most choices made by the player made a difference to the game moving forward. Unfortunately, the player decisions offered in the Dark Pictures Anthology do not seem to have the same weight. This is particularly visible in Little hope.

In this game, it was more like the player was guided through the story without having to make any tough decisions. Hope this is not the case in The devil in me.

3. Keep the House of Ashes Difficulty System

Another thing that the Dark Pictures Anthology struggled to balance the difficulty level. In little hope, the time given to complete quick events was particularly forgiving. Fortunately, a more detailed difficulty mechanic has been implemented in Ash houseso hopefully the new system will stay in place for The devil in me.

Nobody said it was supposed to be easy.

2. Keep those fears coming

The one thing that has been consistent across all of Supermassive’s games so far is the tense nature. Each title of Dark Pictures Anthology brought with it a disturbing sense of dread. This spooky atmosphere has become what Dark Pictures Anthology is known for and it is to be featured in the next entry in the series.

1. Give us another epic conclusion

SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST THREE ANTHOLOGY OF DARK IMAGES THE GAMES WILL FOLLOW:

While the first two Dark Pictures Anthology titles ended much the same; with hallucinations used to explain the monstrosities seen by the characters, Ash house was bolder than that with his ending. The introduction of vampires into the universe of Dark Pictures Anthology was exciting and had interesting implications for the future of the series.

With a bit of luck The devil in me has an equally important revelation up its sleeve that they can unveil and the conclusion of the game, rather than ending with the lackluster explanation of it all being a hallucination.
