fans of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians The book series are now well aware of the news that the characters are leaving the pages of the books and will now be seen in action on the Disney+ show. Author Rick Riordan will produce the series, ensuring the streaming series lives up to the quality of the books. Although the books had already been adapted into movies, this was a rather unsuccessful attempt to bring the characters to life. However, the Disney + show already seems promising.
Now, Rick Riordan has stirred up a little more fan excitement. He said six key gods from the books will be missing from the show’s first season. However, fans need not worry as the producer has made it clear that the show will run for more than five seasons!

On his official website, writer and producer Rick Riordan revealed that about six gods will be absent from the first season of the upcoming Disney+ series. He said anyone who is a fan of the books knows that not all of the Olympian Gods are seen in a group in the first book alone. They are well thought out and planned which makes the books quite interesting to read. This means fans will have to wait to see all the mythological deities in action.
“I imagine everyone is curious to cast for the other gods of Olympus. And you know this from the books, if you’ve read the books, not all of the twelve Olympian gods appear in book 1, so not all of the gods will appear in the first season, and all of the gods won’t have not yet been chosen.
He added that scripts have to be written season by season and therefore actors are cast simultaneously. He makes a pretty solid point, as haste could very well be the downfall of the highly promising series. He further stated that Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess, will probably not be seen until the third season, and the same goes for Apollo and Artemis. Hestia, Hera, and Demeter, on the other hand, could make their way into season five.
Well, speaking of certainty, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus will likely show up in season one. Additionally, Lin Manuel Miranda and Jason Mantzoukas were cast as Hermes and Dionysus respectively.
Why Percy Jackson’s Movies Failed to Impress

After the announcements about the Percy Jackson series, fans were initially skeptical. However, they quickly found solace in the fact that Riordan himself will be part of the production. The skepticism came from when Percy Jackson films failed to impress audiences. Neither film was able to exceed a 50% Rotten Tomatoes score. No wonder fans don’t care about adaptations.
As for why the movies didn’t work out, there could be several reasons. Mainly, the movies didn’t stay true to the source material. The books are incredibly rich and detailed, with intricate characters and plots. The movies streamlined all of that, making the world flat and the characters one-dimensional. Couple that with cheap CGI and you have your answer.
Riordan himself was not a fan of the films. He once stated that he hadn’t seen the films and wasn’t planning on either. He simply judged them after reading the script because a story is what matters most to him. He added that although it was a few hours for the fans, he felt like the movies were his life’s work being wasted. Even lead actor Logan Lerman feels the books deserved a better adaptation.
Nevertheless, the Disney+ series has already seemed to convince fans that it has everything under control. With his well-thought-out action plan and Riordan’s involvement, things are already looking good!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is set to release on Disney+ in 2024.
