Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released worldwide in theaters on November 11. Not only was it well-received by fans and critics, but the film also played its part in paying homage to late actor Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther legacy. While most fans left the theater satisfied and with full hearts, some didn’t quite come to terms with how the story unfolded.
Following the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman, fans were unsure whether or not to recast his character. Marvel Studios decided not to recast the character of T’Challa and instead passed the torch to his sister, Shuri. This led to the relaunch of the “Recast T’Challa” movement, as fans believe the character isn’t done with her story yet.

The “Recast T’Challa” movement rediscovers the tourbillon
Over opening weekend, the movement to get T’Challa took over Twitter, running through November 12. The film showed T’Challa dying after suffering from a mysterious illness. Understandably, fans weren’t too happy with the ending given to Chadwick Boseman’s character. They presented a simple argument: how can a superhero born in one of the most technologically advanced countries die of a mysterious disease?
Fan resentment of T’Challa’s ending is completely understandable. While most superheroes do a grand gesture to save humanity, dying of a simple illness seemed questionable for one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most beloved superheroes.
The move was elaborated on in more detail, stating that fans didn’t want an immediate redesign, nor were they thrilled about Shuri donning the Black Panther super suit. It’s just about T’Challa finishing his in-universe story properly and letting fans get closer to the character.
T’Challa fans made a very valid point when they said Boseman’s family said the late actor would have wanted T’Challa recast for future Black Panther endeavors. Boseman himself had said in interviews that he was proud to have a James Bond legacy.
So fans have called out Marvel Studios for trying to monetize Boseman’s death and not fulfilling his wishes. Some weren’t even too happy with the studios for using Boseman’s Twitter account to post Wakanda forever’s trailer, calling it disrespectful to use his death as an emotional arc.

#WakandaForever was so disappointing. They should have just recast T’challa and made a proper sequel instead of just throwing out such a good character

They ruined T’challa’s story because of grief. Real-life tragedy should never be added into a frictional story that has nothing to do with character. They should take a break until they are ready to recast the main character. #RecastTChalla pic.twitter.com/U2P3KWlkIa

To all those who said: “give marvel and co. a chance “to see the film first”.
We’ve seen it and even believe very strongly that T’Challa needs to be recast#RecastTChalla #SaveTChalla #Black Panther #WakandaForever

With Batman, Superman and other superheroes still not meeting their end despite being in the superhero industry for so long, fans were heartbroken to see their only black superhero. meet its end, so quickly. They blamed Marvel Studios for being too emotional in their dealings with the ordeal that they failed to see what fans wanted from Black Panther.
On the other hand, some fans have called out the move by stating that the people who know Boseman up close and personal – the Black Panther cast and crew – are in a better position to choose what happens in the film.

wakanda forever ended its story with a mid-credits scene showing T’Challa and Nakia’s son, named after the late King Wakandan himself. Fans are now intrigued to see where the young boy’s story is headed. While fans desperately want a T’Challa redesign, they may have to make peace with T’Challa Jr. for now, as the MCU isn’t in the mood for a redesign just yet.
Whether the child will follow in his father’s footsteps and ascend the throne or not is a question that can only be answered in the future. Until then, fans can do no more than hope studios pay attention to their desires.
