Marvel Studios actor Martin Freeman has hinted that Disney+’s Secret Invasion will be unlike anything else Marvel has done. Starring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos (both introduced in 2019), the highly anticipated Disney+ series is set to premiere in 2023. Freeman noted that the series would seem like a slight departure from other MCU films, and this will be his third time playing CIA agent Everett K. Ross.
Martin Freeman gives an overview
Talk to DigitalSpy, Martin Freeman, who plays the villain in Secret Invasion, mentioned many upcoming crossovers in Marvel Cinematic Universe shows. The actor who plays Everett Ross elaborated on the complexity of the story, calling it “labyrinthine”, due to the number of characters that interact with each other and the number of narrative threads.

Freeman described the show as being on the dark side with a bit of darkness. Disney+’s Secret Invasion, he said, has a very distinct vibe to it from other MCU productions he’s seen:
“It’s quite different from the things I’ve seen. It looks like a small start. Yeah, it is – in a way that I wouldn’t be able to describe. Again, I haven’t seen it. I haven’t even read it all.
He acknowledged that while he has a small role in the online series, it’s not ‘The Ross Show’. While the series isn’t without its flaws, it’s worth watching due to Ross’ excellent supporting role in Secret Invasion.
Who might surprise fans in a crossover appearing in Secret Invasion?
Secret Invasion was billed as a Marvel Studios crossover event, and Martin Freeman’s words serve to reaffirm that. What does all of this entail, though? Massive mcu crossover events have been seen in theaters, but not yet on Disney+ despite the service’s relatively brief history with the property.
It’s a fun guessing game since Secret Invasion is a story that brings together so many characters from different Marvel Universes. Therefore, these crosses can be anyone. Even if Disney+’s version of the plot doesn’t go that far, at Marvel’s speed with surprise cameos, anything is possible. This is, however, purely conjectural at this time.
