The penguin The HBO Max series is meant to bridge the gap between The Batman and its sequel.
During a recent interview with Variety, HBO Max Originals Manager Sarah Aubrey talked about the upcoming The Batman spin-off series centered on the Penguin by Colin Farrell. According to Aubrey, The Penguin is currently slated to premiere before the release of batman 2serving as a sort of prequel to the next film.
“penguin will sit immediately after the end of The Batman and temporarily before the events of the second movie,” Aubrey told the site. “The series will be released between the two films. Now, beyond that, it’s fun for audiences to know that this will be a bridge between the two, but the actual release date, I’m not at liberty to say.
“The point of this is to show what life in Oz is like and it’s fine on the streets of Gotham, trying to get up and get up like only the Penguin can. As a hustler and strategist with ambitions of his own,” Aubrey continued. “It’s a great example of having time across eight episodes to tell a longer-arc character story with lots of delicious twists and new characters.” will really act Gotham at this street level, because he doesn’t fly like Batman does. The Penguin takes place in the same universe as The Batman and sees Colin Farrell reprise his role as the villainous Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot. Cristin Milioti recently joined the cast of the series as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Gotham City mob boss Carmine Falcone, played by John Turturro in The Batman.
Easttown Pond director Craig Zobel is directing the first two episodes of The Penguin, starring Lauren LeFranc (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and Mandrel) overseeing the project as writer and showrunner. Colin Farrell serves as an executive producer on the series alongside The Batman director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark. Production is expected to begin early next year.
The Batman opened last March, earning 770.8 million at the worldwide box office, a figure that makes it the fifth highest-grossing film of the year so far. Reeves is working on a sequel to the Warner Bros. project. and is currently writing her screenplay alongside Mattson Tomlin.
