Is James Gunn Teasing Mr. Terrific’s DC Universe Debut?
James Gunn and Peter Safran are set to complete a roadmap for the future of the DC Universe, based on recent comments from Warner Bros. David Zaslav. Discovery. While details regarding their plans are being kept under wraps, Gunn recently shared a photo of Mr. Terrific on his social media pages, indicating that the character is part of their new DC Universe.
Earlier this month, James Gunn joined social network Mastodon and posted a similar post featuring DC Comics character Lobo. Whether Lobo and Mr. Terrific will end up in the DC Universe remains to be seen, but fans are already excited about their potential inclusion on social media.
Introduced in the pages of 1997 Specter (vol.3) #54, Michael Holt is the second DC Comics character to take on the role of Mr. Terrific after Terry Sloane, a Golden Age superhero. Holt was created by DC legends John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake.
Echo Kellum played a version of Mr. Terrific in the Arrowverse. Introduced in the fourth season of ArrowKellum’s Mr. Teriffic was known as Curtis Holt and played a significant role on the show until its eighth and final season on The CW.
Last month, James Gunn and Peter Safran signed a four-year deal to lead DC Studios. The division is in charge of DC’s film, television and animation efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing together the company’s comic-related assets under one roof.
James Gunn is expected to focus on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Peter Safran will handle business and production. They will report directly to the head of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, and will collaborate with co-directors from Warner Bros. Film Group, Michael DeLuca and Pam Abdy.
