Before Henry Cavill’s face became the face of the witcher franchise, it was Doug Cockle. The voice actor played Geralt of Riv since the first Witcher game the witcher was released in October 2007.
After hearing Henry Cavill’s dismissal from the witcher franchise, Doug Cockle was incredibly shocked as the duo had linked up to represent Geralt of Rivia from Netflix the witcher came out in 2019.
Doug Cockle sad to see Henry Cavill go the witcher
If you’ve been a big fan of the witcher gaming franchise, then you might remember the iconic voice of Doug Cockle. Geralt de Riv’s quotes became a meme fest when he talked about the weather like “The Wind Howls” and “Looks like rain.” Doug Cockle recently came to Eurogamer One by one podcast in which he talked about Henry Cavill.

Sharing a common bond over the wielder of the Silver Sword, the duo of Henry Cavill and Cockle had discussed the character many times. Doug Cockle has voiced Geralt of Rivia since 2007 and was part of the DLC expansion of The Witcher, The Witcher: Blood and Wine in 2016. Speaking on the podcast, here’s what the London Voodoo the actor had to say about Cavill.
“Well, I think it’s really sad, and there’s a lot of people speculating why he decided to leave. But whatever the reason, I think it’s sad because that I think Henry… I think he did a fabulous job as Geralt of Rivia.
Cockle also revealed that Henry Cavill invited the OG voice actor to the season premiere of the witcher in 2019, which was really nice of him. The duo had chatted for about an hour or two about Geralt of Rivia and how they both saw Geralt as more than just an emotionless being.
“I remember we talked about Superman, we talked about Geralt and the witcher. We had similar thoughts about Geralt. If I remember correctly, he felt the same way I did about him not being an emotionless being, and I think we can see that in his performance.
Although saddened, Doug Cockle has promising words of comfort for the next Geralt of Rivia, that is, Liam Hemsworth.

Although saddened by the departure of Cavill, Doug Cockle congratulated the future actor and wished Liam Hemsworth “the best of luck”.
“I’m sad to see him go. I wish Liam Hemsworth the best of luck with him. I can’t wait to see what he does with it. But I’m sad to see Henry go, because Henry, I felt he did a fabulous job.
Doug Cockle also jokingly warned that Liam Hemsworth will have an important role to play as he steps into,
“Shoes the size of Geralt de Riv. Henry Cavill-sized shoes,” adding, “Henry really, really embodied the role of Geralt in a wonderful way. So yeah, I don’t envy Liam.
Henry Cavill will pick up the silver sword for the last time when the witcher season 3 will premiere on Netflix in the summer of 2023. Although there is apparently a the witcher (game) remake in the works, Doug Cockle has had no contact to voice the role of Geralt of Rivia in the upcoming remaster.
