The spectacular box office success of Black Panther in 2018 can be credited to the entire cast and crew, but the star Chadwick Boseman played King T’Challa and helped make him one of the most adored figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
So once Boseman passed away from a battle with cancer, everyone wondered if Wakanda could go on without its leader. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever deals with Boseman’s passage through the universe rather than recasting the role or eliminating King T’Challa from the picture. That’s because King T’Challa also dies in the MCU, and he does so in a way that reflects the actor who inspired the renowned character.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler made the decision to incorporate Boseman’s passing into the narrative. It turned out to be a wonderful tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
How does T’Challa die in Wakanda forever?
King T’ChallaWakanda Forever’s devastating illness is never revealed, but the tale implies that the hero hid his condition from his loved ones until it was too late. T’Challa had to endure the pain alone while something consumed him from within since he didn’t want to worry anyone until his time came.
This admirable act mirrors Boseman’s own battle with colon cancer. The world was shocked by the actor’s passing as fans were unaware of his abundant suffering. Most of us were made aware of his colon cancer after his family tragically announced his passing.
After watching Wakanda Forever, many fans speculated that T’Challa may have died of cancer. However, this is not the case. In the comics, Wakanda has already developed science and drugs to treat cancer. It’s great that the studio kept the illness a secret, as the film focused more on honoring his life and legacy than how he died.
How does T’Challa die in the comics?
In Marvel Comics Earth 616, T’Challa suffers a serious injury during the “Trial of the Panther”, in which the protector of the nation is chosen. T’Challa’s older brother, M’Baku, discovers him bleeding, mute, and about to pass out, but mocks him as a fool for attempting the trial. Later, M’Baku adds that he should have stood trial rather than T’Challa. M’Baku leaves the kingdom enraged by his father’s decision to share Wakanda’s technology with America in exchange for helping to save T’Challa’s life. T’Challa still dies of his wounds, but in a later issue he is resurrected.
Boseman will be honored by all Marvel fans as the true King of Wakanda, a good man who showed us all how to dream of a society where we build more bridges rather than burn them. Be still king.
