Grand Theft Auto was one of the greatest games to ever exist. Part Five is literally a part of every home, whether on consoles or PC or whatever means possible. So to think there was a chance for fans to see a movie about the game franchise would really be a dream.
Learning that there was such a possibility may seem impossible, but in the eyes of rock star founders, it wasn’t the best idea, no matter who was the star of it.

Grand Theft Auto almost made a movie with Eminem
It was recently unearthed by an insider who Grand Theft Auto was almost going to have a movie starring Eminem, with Tony Scott as director. GTA V has been the optimal game for several gamers around the world. Kirk Irwing, who is close to founders Sam and Dan Houser, said he had received a $5 million offer to secure the rights to the film which could be a huge hit after the smash release of GTA III.
However, the brothers had made their disinterest very clear, stating that the games and the developing world around them were much bigger than the big screen could ever provide. The release of the game had happened around the same time that Eminem’s fame was going off the charts, so having him in the movie was a huge opportunity for them. He also entered the world of cinema with his semi-biographical film 8 miles.

The Houser brothers weren’t interested in a Grand Theft Auto movie
Although Irwing reached out to Sam Houser and talked about possibly having a movie in the works at some point, the founder immediately shot down the idea. They did last time one of the siblings even mentioned that there had already been a movie about the world of GTA. For the brothers, it wasn’t about the money or the acting, but about the large-scale gaming world they thought was best left untouched in the world of Hollywood.
“He said, ‘Kirk, we have Eminem to play, and it’s a Tony Scott movie – $5 million on the nose. Are you interested?’
The answer was most definitely NO.
With GTA VI having already been announced as being in the works, with a possible launch in 2025, players on all platforms have been preparing to return to the world and discover what rock star created for them after such a long wait. Even with the September leaks, fans haven’t lost hope for what’s to come.
