Lady Gaga set to join Joaquin Phoenix for Joker: Madness for two and a stunning concept design imagines the singer-turned-actress as Harley Quinn.
Since Joker: Madness for two was first announced by Warner Brothers, Lady Gaga is rumored to appear in the film as Harley Quinn. An official teaser has confirmed that Gaga will appear opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel, which will be a musical.
After Joker followed Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck as he transformed into the Clown Prince of Crime, the sequel now looks set to show Lady Gaga’s Harleen Quinzel following him into madness. This new concept design from popular artist “BossLogic” gives Gaga’s Harley Quinn a punk vibe, in a tank top with mesh sleeves on the arms. Check out the design of BossLogic’s Instagram page:
The artwork also gives Harley Quinn her signature oversized mallet. Let these overtly comedic elements make their way into the more grounded world established in Joker is yet to be seen, but it’s certainly a compelling look for Lady Gaga on the iconic Batman villain.
The look is a far cry from the ballgown seen in silhouette in Joker: Madness for twofirst teaser. Given director Todd Phillips’ penchant for shaking up the comic book genre, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Gaga’s Harley in an outfit that’s a stark departure from her classic look.
After the first movie ends with Arthur Fleck at Arkham State Hospital, it’s likely that – as in previous iterations – Harleen Quinzel will start as the Joker’s psychiatrist. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but a significant portion of the sequel is expected to take place in Arkham.
Todd Phillips, who directed the first Joker movie, returns to the director’s chair to Madness for two, working from a screenplay he co-wrote alongside Scott Silver. Production is set to begin in December for release in October 2024.
The cast of Madness for two also includes Brendan Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey.
