The people behind The Batman cut a scene involving Barbara Gordon, the second Batgirl.
An extract of The Batman: The Official Script Book revealed a deleted scene from the film, which sees Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) naming his daughter Barbara, one of the characters who takes on the role of Batgirl in the pages of DC Comics. During the scene, Gordon receives a call from Bruce Wayne while at the Gotham City Police Department, forcing him to lie about the caller’s identity and saying that Barbara is looking for him.
Barbara Gordon does not appear in the final version of The Batman. Leslie Grace was tasked with bringing Barbara to life for Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah bat girl, but the film was removed by Warner Bros. Discovery a few months before its release. However, bat girl and The Batman were set in separate universes, with JK Simmons playing Barbara’s father, reprising his Justice League role.
Reports at the time of bat girlThe cancellation indicated that the co-heads of the Warner Bros. Pictures’ Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy were considering casting Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon in other DC Comics movies. For now, Grace’s future as Batgirl remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, Matt Reeves is currently working on a sequel to The Batman, which he co-wrote and directed. Reeves is writing the screenplay for the sequel with Mattson Tomlin, who did uncredited work on the first film’s third act.
The Batman also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Penguin, and Barry Keoghan as Joker. The film streams exclusively on HBO Max and is available on Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD 4K Ultra HD.
