A new Superman movie starring Henry Cavill is far from a sure thing.
black adam featured the long-awaited return of Henry Cavill as Superman, but the actor’s future as a DC Comics icon remains a mystery. Cavill said he was committed to the role and Warner Bros. Discovery recently tapped James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead its DC Studios division, which replaces Walter Hamada’s DC Films.
TheWrap reports that there’s “no forward momentum” on a Superman movie as Gunn and Safran continue to work on their roadmap for the DC Universe. Their plans for DC Studios are expected to be revealed within the next two months, based on an anonymous insider who spoke to the site.
Trade adds that Henry Cavill has yet to sign a formal deal for more DC Universe appearances. Warner Bros. Discovery hasn’t hired a writer or director for another Superman live-action project, at least not yet, so it’s still a long way off if that ends up happening.
Earlier this week, Amy Adams said she was thrilled Cavill appeared to be back in the cape and thighs, but she wasn’t asked to reprise her role as Lois Lane. Adams made her first appearance as Lois in Cavill’s Superman debut Steel man and his character has served as his love interest ever since.
James Gunn and Peter Safran now lead DC’s film, television and animation efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing together the company’s comic-related assets under one roof. According to reports, Gunn is focused on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Safran handles business and production related things.
Last Tuesday, the head of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav has revealed that the two new DC Studios heads are close to completing a multi-year plan. Zaslav is the one they report to, but they’ll also collaborate with co-directors from Warner Bros. Film Group Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
