House of the Dragon Season 1 is now complete. The show gave us 10 amazing episodes with brilliant cinematography, great costumes and very talented actors. There were several memorable moments in House of the Dragon and here we count our pick of the top 10 moments from House of the Dragon season 1.
1. Rhaenys and Meleys Crush Aegon’s Coronation
House of the Dragon Season 1 gave us many powerful female characters. One such character is Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, the queen who never was. She fulfilled Princess Helaena’s prophecy by springing from beneath the Red Keep aboard her dragon Meleys. She crushed Aegon’s coronation and gave a warning to the Hightowers and their green faction.
2. Daemon Targaryen takes on the Triarchy alone
This was a major turning point for Prince Daemon Targaryen. Audiences fell in love with Matt Smith and highly praised his acting ability. Without any dialogue or retort, Matt Smith left his mark. Prince Daemon showed his military skills, bravery and determination while cementing himself as a one of the most badass characters in House of the Dragon season 1.
3. Daemon and Rhaenyra get married in House of the Dragon season 1
There were very few ships in House of the Dragon season 1 and the most popular was Prince Daemon and Princess Rhaenyra. After several moments filled with chemistry, they finally get married in a beautiful ceremony in front of their children.
4. Alicent declares her allegiance to the Hightowers with her green dress
One of the standout moments of the entire show was when Queen Alicent entered the great red dungeon hall wearing a bright green dress declaring her allegiance to the Hightowers. In fact, this is where the distinction between Greens and Blacks began. She made her grand entrance at Rhaenyra and Laenor’s wedding celebrations and even interrupted King Viserys’ speech. Not only was Emilia Carrey gorgeous, but she also left a lasting impact on audiences.
5. Demon beheads Vaemond Velaryon
House of the Dragon season 1 and Game of Thrones had their fair share of gory moments and gory scenes. One of those House of the Dragon moments was when Prince Daemon Targaryen beheaded Vaemond Velaryon in open court. He killed her with a single swing of his Dark Sister sword as punishment for insulting his wife, Princess Rhaenyra and her sons. This scene also had audiences falling for Matt Smith’s Prince Daemon Targaryen once again.
6. King Viserys defends his daughter
Paddy Considine was absolutely brilliant in the latest episodes of House of the Dragon. His portrayal of King Viserys in his sickly old age was perfect and fascinating. Our favorite moment was when King Viserys gathered all of his remaining forces and went to the Red Keep room to help Rhaenyra one last time. As he climbed the stairs to the Iron Throne, the crown fell from his head. It made for an unscripted but brilliant moment between Viserys and his brother Daemon. Prince Daemon picked up the crown, placed it on his brother’s head, and helped him ascend the Iron Throne. Their brotherly bond really shined in this moment.
7. Aemond and Vhagar kill Lucerys and Arrax in House of the Dragon season 1
House of the Dragon Season 1 ended with the death of Lucerys and his dragon Arrax at the hands of none other than his own uncle Aemond Targaryen. The stage features the incredible cinematography and visual effects of the show. And who doesn’t love dragons, right?
8. Alicent Attackks Rhaenyra with the cat’s paw dagger
This was a major turning point for Queen Alicent. She shows the public and the royal family her true colours. She shows them how far she is willing to go for her children. Alicent, despite being a hated character, shows her complexity and fierce nature in this scene. It’s also great to see how far the two friends have drifted over the years.
9. Death of Queen Aemma and Baelon
House of the Dragon season 1 had bloody scenes. But Queen Aemma’s death was just chilling. It gave the audience goosebumps and even averted the gaze of some.
10. Rhaenyra is crowned Dark Queen in House of the Dragon season 1
The coronation of Rhaenyra as Queen of the Blacks was a beautiful underrated scene. There was a sense of calm, loss, and grief, especially because it took place after Rhaenyra had just lost both her father, King Viserys, and her stillborn daughter Visenya.
