After a major setback, original director Bassam Tariq left the project years later. Mahershala Ali has been confirmed as the new Blade for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans of The Character and Marvel Studios were understandably disappointed, as the remake was supposed to begin filming this month.
Blade’s revival for the MCU may have its own production issues, but now that the search for its new director is complete, a positive development has emerged.
Yann Demange is the new director of Blade
Filmmaker Yann Demange has reportedly been named the new director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Blade, which stars two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role. The script is currently being written by Michael Starrbury.
Due to the horror-based portions of the program, Yann Demange’s experience on HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” should come in handy, and that would likely be reflected in how he approaches the MCU’s adaptation of Blade.
Mahershala Ali is also confident in Starburry’s new approach to the role and the film as a whole as he was directly involved in finding the screenwriters for the film.
Blade’s assurance that its planned September 2024 release date won’t change may be a sign that there won’t be any more delays. This is in response to fan concerns that Blade’s development issues could influence the MCU’s movie schedule in 2023.
Blade will be a prequel movie
There have been rumors that Blade could be the next MCU prequel movie. In recent years, Marvel Studios has become more comfortable delving into the past. For a long time, Captain America: The First Avenger was the MCU’s only period film, but Captain Marvel’s 1995 setting gave the MCU a fresh perspective while introducing Carol Danvers.
In many ways, Phase 4 continued the exploration of the past. Black Widow, which was based entirely on the events of Captain America: The Civil War, changed the way viewers perceived some of those events. To establish the Eternals’ relationship to Earth, their history spanned a span of 7,000 years. Blade is now seen as one of the best candidates to be the MCU’s next prequel as Marvel continues to expand on the past while pushing the main storyline forward.
The September 6, 2024 release date for Blade is still on schedule.
Before the reboot brings the superhero back from the dead, fans seem to have more than enough time to stream the original Blade movie and its sequels, as well as rewatch all of the Marvel films.
