Francis Lawrence said that Slumberland came to life while working on another television series with Jason Momoa:
“I was doing the Apple TV See show with Jason Momoa (…). I wanted to do something with a lot more joy and a lot more humor and hope. And that’s one of the things I liked the most about this movie. But then, of course, almost immediately, I started making another Hunger Games movie again, I was back in the dystopian world of The Hunger Games.
As Nemo navigates through heartache and grief, she tries to escape her new reality by joining the dream world as much as she can. While trying to find his father in Slumberland, Nemo forgets to live in the moment. Francois Laurent said:
“(It’s) the idea of trying to find resilience when you go through a loss like she does in the story, and the grief she experiences in the story: finding what’s there. inside of you that will help you to move forward, to continue and to continue to grow to find joy again.
