Excess of anything is bad, and we have another proof of that. Usually, we are all advised to drink around 3 liters of water a day. But apparently even drinking excess water and fluids could kill you, because that’s what might have happened to Bruce Lee. The martial arts legend died in Hong Kong on July 20, 1973 from cerebral edema, or swelling of the brain. At least that’s what was reported. But now, nearly 5 decades after his disappearance, a new study suggests the cause of his death may be drinking too much water.
Bruce Lee Death Theories
In the past, we have come across several theories revealing how Bruce Lee could have expired. It has been claimed that he may have been the victim of assassination by triad gangsters or possibly deliberately or accidentally poisoned after consuming contaminated aspirin. And other theories have also suggested that Lee simply perished because he suffered heatstroke. But maybe it was none of that. With the discovery of new research, it is possible that Bruce Lee died of hyponatremia.

What is hyponatremia?
In technical terms, hyponatremia is a condition that occurs when a person’s blood sodium level is too low. In this state, the body begins to retain more water than it is capable of, which results in a lower percentage of sodium in the blood. And according to a study published in the December issue of the Clinical Kidney Journal, something like this happened to Bruce Lee.
Lee is known to have injured his kidneys while practicing martial arts, used marijuana, and ate a fluid diet that included alcohol and lots of juice. So all of this could have led to hyponatremia as these life cases could have prevented his regular excretion of water through effective urination.

In their research, a group of doctors from the Autonomous University of Madrid claimed that the 32-year-old actor “died of a specific form of renal dysfunction.” They wrote:
“We hypothesize that Bruce Lee died of a specific form of kidney dysfunction: the inability to excrete enough water to maintain water homeostasis. This can lead to hyponatremia, cerebral edema, and death within hours if excess water intake is not compensated by excretion of water in the urine.
Since hyponatremia is common, found in up to 40% of hospitalized people and can lead to death from excessive water ingestion even in healthy young people, there is a need to disseminate the concept more widely. that excessive water consumption can kill. ”
Thus, his hyponatremia could have caused the swelling of his brain.

The researchers even concluded that what happened with Lee was quite ironic as he made the quote famous ‘Be water my friend.’ In the end, the excess water is what killed it.
