Jayson Molumby’s parents, Darren and Clarie, are the biggest fans of his football journey.
His father, Darren, who played GAA with Drlas g and Thurles Sarsfields and football for Peake Villa, died after a long illness, but when Jayson was a child he was his first coach and taught him the basics of the game.
His appearance in the Kennedy Cup and the Galway Cup, two of Ireland’s most famous youth competitions, caught the eye of scouts across the Irish Sea, where his mother was convinced he could pursue a football career.
At the age of 18, Molumby made his first-team debut in the early rounds of the 2017-18 Carabao Cup as his father coached in his garden. Molumby played admirably for Brighton academy sides.
A 15-month layoff for Jayson due to a catastrophic knee injury and failed first comeback was only cut short by the surgical insertion of a ligament from his hamstring into his injured knee under the loving care of his mother.
