The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Avatar: The Way of the Water is on track to open between $150 million and $170 million at the North American box office. The first entry into the Avatar The series debuted to $77 million over the weekend of December 18–20, 2009.
Earlier this week, Avatar: The Way of the Water got a release date in China. The film is currently set to be released in the Middle Kingdom on December 16, the same day as its worldwide release.
In other Pandora related news, Avatar: The Way of the Water received a PG-13 rating by the Motion Picture Association Of America. The rating is the result of “sequences of strong violence and intense action, partial nudity and foul language”.
The latest trailer for Avatar: The Way of the Water debuted Sunday night, announcing that tickets for the film are now on sale. The way of the water is one of James Cameron’s longest films to date, running approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes.
“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of the Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the problems that follow them, the efforts they make to protect themselves, the battles they fight to stay alive and the tragedies that they endure,” according to Disney’s official synopsis for the film.
Directed by James Cameron from a script he co-wrote with Josh Friedman, The way of the water stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi and Kate Winslet.
