Just when the controversies began to die down with DC, Marvel rears its head as its Shang Chi star, Simu Liu claims the front lines with his one-liners. The actor had started to rise through the ranks with his powerful superhero entrance and origin story in the movie Phase Four, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. But the past few months have seen him face near-constant controversial outcry with an equally near-constant public backlash and in his latest stunt, the MCU actor has drawn the attention and ire of the accompanying public after he took a controversial stance with Disney.

Simu Liu faces backlash after taking a stand with Disney
The past half-decade has been incredibly critical of CBM franchises, particularly Marvel Studios, and its disruptive efforts to churn out an impossible number of projects in the space of a year. The multi-billion dollar industry has been fiercely criticized by film legends and geniuses like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, and even studio actors have grown tired of their employers.

The Marvel cinematic magic that was seen in the first decade has now been forgotten amid the Phase Four factory line of constant deliveries. The studio acquired by Disney, however, proved its visionary genius by delivering innovative ideas (such as Wanda Vision and Night Werewolf) alongside new content. And the incredibly successful projects have allowed Disney to expand its reach around the world through its global and influential platform. But when it comes to country-specific promotion and premiere, the juggernaut seems to be leaving behind representational ideas that have become evident in its recent attempts to remove or erase black actors from their movie posters.
The discontent and rhetoric that raged against Disney then spilled over to Simu Liu who, in his rant against Tarantino and Scorsese, ends up defending Disney and applauding his attempts to include diversity and representation in his projects. Disappointed fans around the world then rallied on Twitter to decry the actor’s ignorance of what Disney allegedly did for international box office movie ticket sales.

Fans cancel Simu Liu’s applause for his performance
Twitter has been booming for a few weeks after its change of power and the constant threat of collapse. But even amid the ongoing, almost comedic dystopia created in the Bird app, the crowd finds a way to speak out and speak out against those who take the wrong side of the debate. In the case of Simu Liu, the debate does not hold water in its entirety after the actor showed his support for Disney.

Another catalyst for building rage was delivered when Simu Liu defended his “straw man argument” tweeting about “losing internet trolls.” The fandom that had given the MCU star hope quickly dwindled in the face of his constant statements that sparked more controversy than addressing the one at hand.
