New concept art from The Suicide Squad confirms that Idris Elba almost placed Deadshot.
While Deadshot was one of the standout characters in the original suicide squad film, Will Smith was unable to reprise the role of his James Gunn-directed follow-up, citing scheduling conflicts. Idris Elba was originally meant to replace him as the DC Comics villain, but ended up playing an entirely different character instead.
Idris Elba’s DC Universe debut saw him play the role of Robert DuBois aka. Bloodsport, one of the new members of Task Force X. Now a new piece of concept art for The Suicide Squad shows Elbe in full costume for his original role as Will Smith’s Deadshot replacement.
The Suicide Squad Concept artist David Levy recently took to Behance to share some of his work for the film. One of his pieces shows Idris Elba dressed as Deadshot, hanging from an airplane above the ruins of the Jotunheim facility in Corto Maltese. Check out the illustrations below.
After developing The Suicide Squad and its HBO Max spin-off series Peacemaker, James Gunn has been chosen to lead the DC division of Warner Bros. Discovery alongside producer Peter Safran. Idris Elba’s future as Bloodsport is currently unclear, but Gunn could possibly fit it into his multi-year plan for the DC Universe.
