Gwyneth Paltrow instead of Kate Winslet?!
In an interview with GQ where James Cameron breaks down his most iconic films, he revealed something very interesting about the casting of Kate Winslet in Titanic. Here, watch the first minutes of the interview:

Thus, at the very beginning of the conceptualization Titanic, he didn’t want to make a lazy casting choice and bring her into some sort of similar role. Instead, he thought of Gwyneth Paltrow and a few other names. But when he met Winslet, she totally seduced him. And then his screen test with Leonardo DiCaprio went very well too. So, she landed the role from there. In fact, her past work with Cameron also led her to star in the Avatar continuations today.
