Shazam is one of the underrated characters that currently exists in the DCU. Because there was no major crossover event planned after Justice League, Shazam doesn’t have a real team yet. He should have been connected to Black Adam, but Dwayne Johnson was more interested in fighting Superman. So, Shazam has been limited to his own solo movies so far. But Billy Batson would be integrated into other DC properties after Fury of the gods as James Gunn draws up a 10-year plan. Expect a lot of teams.
Asher Angel teases the future of Shazam!
While we wait Shazam! Fury of the gods, it will be interesting to see what awaits the character beyond the upcoming sequel. James Gunn is building a 10-year narrative for future DC movies, so Shazam is supposed to play a crucial role in that. And in a recent interview with Josh Wilding, Billy Batson actor Asher Angel also talked about Shazam’s future.

Angel said he is “ready for Shazam to be incorporated into other superhero movies:”
“Man, I feel really good with Peter [Safran] and James on board. I mean, they’re obviously super talented and super passionate and I love how they’re creating this 10-year plan. And I think the DC Universe is going to be… there’s a lot of movie specials coming up and I’m just ready for Shazam to be incorporated into other superhero movies…”
Shazam! Fury of the gods is supposed to have a Wonder Woman cameo this time. So there is a team right there.

The future of Billy Batson
The appearance of Wonder Woman and a supposed appearance of Superman in Fury of the gods should set up Shazam for a Justice League team. He should be drafted into the team for sure now. And because children grow so fast, it will be important for James Gunn and co to use them quickly from now on. Maybe a Shazam! 3 or another crossover movie involving the character should happen in the next 2-3 years.

While we mostly think of Zachary Levi as the face of the Shazam! franchise, we have to keep in mind that the young Asher Angel who plays Billy Batson is the one who will take over going forward. back in Shazam!, Grace Fulton played the younger version of Mary Bromfield while Michelle Borth played the former Lady Shazam. But now in Fury of the gods, Grace Fulton also took over as Lady Shazam because her character reached the right age. So in the future, the same should happen for Billy Batson, as Asher Angel could take over as the older Shazam. But for the next 3-5 years, we’ll stick with Levi as Shazam. He’ll be the one to appear in future crossovers and make cameos in other films.
Shazam! Fury of the gods is set to release on March 17, 2023.
