Too Much Of Free Time Might Have Bad Mood Swings

According to this study, too much of the free time of an individual will raise the person’s sense of well-being by taking up the point and also become a bad thing. According to the research from the American Psychological Association, too much free time can’t control emotions, says many of the researchers.

Many people especially seniors prefer to have leisure time at a regular interval but this can be detrimental to their health in a long run.

Marissa Sharif is the lead researcher and author of this study, she says that “people regularly do complain about being busy and wanted to experience more time as their free time” but more time is directly linked to greater happiness.

This study found that having a dearth of discretionary hours will result in greater stress and experiences lower subjective well-being, says Marissa. But having very few bad times and having more time is not better all the time.

Researchers had analyzed the data from the 21,736 American citizens who had shown active participation in this survey which was conducted between the years of 2012 and 2013.

Based on the survey results, the participants had provided a very detailed count for every participant by indicating the time within a day and time of duration for every activity by reporting the well-being sense.

The researchers had found that in many people free time is increased so the well-being is levelly offed for 2 hours and again began for the declinations after the correlation was formed from both the directions on statistical significance.

After analyzing the data, researchers had identified 13,639 Americans who are working and show active participation in all the surveys.

Among all the surveys many questions were asked and participants had answered them within discretionary time with an average minute of hours from the free-time activities.

Researchers had conducted this study again to find another set of answers that increased levels of free time are significantly associated with increased levels of well-being. After all, the excess of free time is not associated with well-being at greater levels.

After some further investigations, researchers had conducted two different experiments online by shown the involvement with more than 6000 people.

On this note, during the first experiment, they were asked about imagining the discretionary time every day for six months and participants had randomly assigned to have 15 minutes every day, moderately with 3.5 hours, and 7 hours with a high tie.

Researchers found that participants who are having low and high times, those groups were reported as lower times for well-being compared to the moderate time group.

Researchers said that participants with low free time are feeling stresses, while moderate free time people are having lower levels of well-being, and people with increased high free time are having less productivity compared to the moderate time group which had led them to lower levels of well-being.

On another note, after the second experiment is conducted, researchers looked for the potential roles for high productivity and later participants were asked to imagine the moderate of 3.5 hours and 7 hours with high time.

Additionally, also asked to imagine the productive and unproductive times to spend.

Researchers found the results that participants are having free time to report the lower levels of well-being during unproductive activities and engaged during productive activities in both the cases of high and moderate free times.

On a concluding note, researchers say that “these study findings had suggested that having an end day with a free number of entire days are strived to have moderate free time”
