Biden & McConnell Encourage Citizens To Get Vaccinated

President Joe Biden and American Senate Minority Leader Mitchell McConnell got their booster vaccine shots, thus encouraging all the American citizens to get their vaccines.

Seventy-eight-year-old American President Joe Biden and seventy-nine-year-old American senator Mitchell McConnell have now had three vaccine doses each after getting their booster dose on Monday during an event at the White House in the South Court Auditorium on Monday, 27th September 2021 in Washington.

The Republican Senate leader and The Democratic President have been actively encouraging Americans to their regular vaccine doses plus the booster shot as and when they are eligible for the additional dose of the shield.

Both the vaccines were administered on Pennsylvania Avenue a few hours apart on the first working day soon after the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that a third booster dose of the vaccine Pfizer was recommended for all Americans aged sixty-five years and older.

The booster shot has also been sanctioned for those with pre-existing medical conditions as well as for those who work in high-risk environments.

While the booster shot is known to provide a more persistent shield against coronavirus, both the leaders were of the common opinion that it wasn’t a magical solution to end the pandemic and that besides the booster shot, the most important thing was to encourage more people to get their vaccines.

Considering almost twenty-five percent of the eligible population of America hasn’t had even a single dose of vaccine, it is worrisome because they are ones who are most susceptible to the month-long rise in infections and deaths by the more contagious delta variant of COVID 19 virus that is responsible for 688,000 deaths in the U.S.A ever since the pandemic began earlier last year.

American senator Mitchell McConnell, who himself is a polio survivor has been promoting the safety and effectiveness of these vaccines for months, while also insisting that vaccine is the only way to protect ourselves and our loved ones from this dreadful virus.

President Joe Biden, along with his wife, the first lady Jill Biden, who is seventy years old got their first dose of Pfizer vaccine on the 21st of December 2020 followed by the second dose after three weeks on the 11th of January 2021.

While the president got his booster shot by a military nurse at an event at the White House, the first lady got her Pfizer booster shot privately at the White House on Monday afternoon according to her spokesperson, Michael LaRosa.

Biden has been vigorously promoting the booster doses ever since U.S was hit by a spike in the number of COVID 19 infections because of the delta variant this summer. While most infections are occurring amongst the unvaccinated population, there is also enough evidence from studies conducted in the U.S as well as Israel that protection against the virus is significantly higher with the third booster shot of the Pfizer vaccine.

Joe Biden also said that the U.S.A will be buying 500 million doses of Pfizer vaccine to be donated to poorer countries, out of a total of 1 billion doses over the next year.

The president also said that he had not experienced any side effects from his first two doses and hoped he will not with his booster shot as well.

Booster dose for Moderna vaccine has not yet been authorized by the federal regulators, but they are likely to in the near future, while data is also expected soon about the safety and effectiveness of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
