The shortage of healthcare staff has been a major problem for the medical sector and with the rise in cases, the issue will become worse and might lead to the collapse of the health care facilities.

The Christmas holidays are under the radar of the new variant and it has been expected that the next wave of the covid 19 will be of a deadly combination of both delta and omicron variant and it will surely create a lot of trouble for the citizens. Although the current stats show that average daily cases will surpass 150,000 in a day.

The Christmas season has become the worst nightmare for the healthcare industry and this is the second consecutive year when doctors and nurses shall be busy treating Covid-19 patients during the Christmas holiday season. Already the complaints of the increasing stress level and anxieties have increased this year and many healthcare workers stopped working due to deteriorating mental health

Now again such a situation has arisen where the frontline workers have to give their heart and soul to take care of the infected patients and this might become a more draining task again and again.

As the number of cases is already at almost previous peaks in a few states, the healthcare workers are overworked. However, the bigger fear is that after the holiday season in January if the number of cases rises, the healthcare system and the system would not be able to cope up with the infected individuals due to lack of beds.

As per some reports, the healthcare workers are already overwhelmed with work for the last year and a half. The continuously high number of cases will only lead to the breakdown of the medical system in the country if not curbed in time.

Both the variants of Coronavirus – The Delta and the Omicron are circulating widely in the country and the upcoming wave will be more dangerous as it will be a combination of both covid 19 variants.

Researchers are still studying the type of treatment and the number of days of hospitalizations required for each type of variant. Although it has been expected that the hospitalization rate will stay around 20 percent for the omicron as compared to the delta version where the rate was as high as 45 percent.

The emergency authorization of Pfizer’s pill Paxlovid by the US FDA has added to the tools available to fight the virus.
