New Studies Found Omicron Is Not Lethal For The Unvaccinated
According to the latest data available, the United States has surpassed the tally of 65 million total cases since the start of the pandemic in the country. It took only one month to add 15 million cases to the list of 50 million.
Also, according to the official website of CDC, a total of 849,000 confirmed deaths have been recorded in the country who have died due to the covid 19 viruses, including all the variants. The vaccination rate is not increasing as per the expected rate and according to the medical agency, a total of 208 million or 63 percent of the American Population has been fully vaccinated offering a good amount of protection to fight against the new variant of covid 19.
The latest data also showed that almost 79 percent of the US population has received at least a single dose of the initial vaccine. Also, the authority also claimed that around 35 percent of the eligible population has received the booster shot and the government must take new preventive measures to increase the vaccination and booster dose percentage in the country.
The community transmission has already started in the nation and even some states have already claimed that they have achieved the peak level and the cases have started to lower down like in the State of New York, on weekends, the state-administered 45 percent fewer cases which when compared with the previous weeks this year. The positivity rate which was revolving around 23-24 percent has come down to 14.5 percent giving a sigh of relief to the state administration and citizens.
According to medical experts in the US in some parts of the country, the peak has not even started and the upcoming days will be very tough for the entire nation.
The initial studies conducted in South Africa and the United States have already found that the omicron variant is not severe and carries very few symptoms as compared to its counterpart, the delta version. Although the variety is low, the transmissible level is very high which makes it a serious matter for the medical agencies as hospital admissions will rise because of the highly contagious nature of this subtype.
Now the new studies state that even for the unvaccinated people, the new variant is not deadly as compared to the initial and delta version. But this is not the end of the pandemic, claimed by Dr. Anthony Fauci. The hospital admissions and death rate is also moderate in comparison to the delta strain.
It is also true that the initial two doses of the vaccine offer protection against the hospitalization and mortality rate. The US CDC also claimed in its study that the new variant has less capacity to kill the infected person.
