Ever since the pandemic started, most people have been doing what the Government has asked us to do. People got vaccinated not once, not twice but thrice, followed social distancing, wore masks while going out, and maintained proper hygiene.
Who Are The ‘Vaxxed And Done’ And Are You One Among Them?
It has been 2 years since we started to do all this but still, there seems to be no end to this. Writer Derek Thompson has coined a name for these people as “vaxxed and done”, in an essay about the breakdown between the people who have taken covid-19 seriously and followed the protocol.
The ’vaxxed and done’ are a group of people, who followed the covid protocols announced by the government seriously, they are willing to get boosted, but they also want their reward like removing the mask and stopping following the protocols. Though there is a set of people who took covid seriously and followed the safety measures, there is another set of people who didn’t get vaccinated.
To protect the unvaccinated people from getting infected, the vaccinated people have to follow the protocols. Thompson wrote that he will treat covid similar to flu, not worry about it, and live his life normally.
Health officials agree to the ‘vaxxed and done’ saying that many vaccinated people who are done with their vaccination are getting frustrated over the fact that the protocols and safety measures have to be followed. At this point, people started to fear that this condition may never get better and safety protocols may never lift.
Vaile Wright, psychologist and senior director of health care innovation for the American Psychological Association said that there has been frustration towards the citizens who are unvaccinated and extending the pandemic situation. She added that people are frustrated with the government for letting down the people who followed the protocol and tried their best to contribute to ending the pandemic.
The executive director of the American Public Health Association said that Covid-19 and people following the restrictions have been directly affected by the ‘vaxxed and done’ group. He said it is impossible to constrain people on an emergency basis and not to tell them for a long time.
There were said to be three situations, where scientists thought the end of the pandemic, only to get disappointed. People came out of their lockdown after the end of one variant only to meet new variants affecting people on a large scale. They have taken the booster dose but get disappointed knowing it is ineffective against Omicron.
They got fully vaccinated to move on from the pandemic, but only to be told that they had to follow the restrictions to protect the unvaccinated and the vulnerable. He added that at this point people are tired and ready to risk it. They started to believe that they aren’t going to get infected, even if they do, they aren’t going to die.
Wright said that ‘vaxxed and people’ haven’t abandoned the safety measures yet but they started to look at different views, in case this virus never goes away and are learning to live with it.
The people who followed the safety measures have done everything in their power to protect themselves, the people they love, and the people around them.“For those who show resistance to safety measures and the unvaccinated will suffer severely”, Wright said.
The ‘vaxxed and done’ should follow the safety measures like wearing masks and social distancing, as hospitals’ rights are clustered with Covid patients. It is important to bring down the hospitalization rate, as most hospitals are overwhelmed with covid cases. Normal health care has taken a hit.
