Billie Joe Armstrong Says He’ll Renounce His US Citizenship!

Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day’s vocalist, told concertgoers that he would renounce his US citizenship following the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade. This contentious move effectively ends the federal constitutional right of abortion in all 50 states.

Armstrong vented his anger during Friday’s concert at London Stadium, the United Kingdom, as part of the Hella Mega tour. He said: “America, F**k You.” I am f***ing abandoning my citizenship. I am f**king trying to get here.”

Before warning his followers that they would see more of him in the days ahead, he stated, “There is too much f**king stupid in the world to return to that wretched excuse for a country.” Armstrong is just one of many American artists to have spoken out against Roe v. Wade. At the Glastonbury Festival in Britain, several artists spoke out against the decision, including Phoebe Bridgers and Billie Eilish, as well as Kendrick Lamar and Olivia Rodrigo.

Bridgers led a “F**k The Supreme Court” chant in addition to decrying “irrelevant mothersf**kers trying to tell us what to do about our f**king body.”

Olivia Rodrigo, a teen star, welcomed Lily Allen on stage, dedicating her song “F**k You” to the five Supreme Court justices who dissented from the landmark ruling that had made abortion a federally protected legal right in the United States for over 50 years.

Rodrigo stated that she was “devastated” and “terrified” by the news. She then told Glastonbury audiences, “so many women, so many girls, are going to be killed as a consequence of this.” Rodrigo dedicated the song to Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh – who Rodrigo said: “don’t care a sh*t about liberty.”

Lamar, one of the festival’s final headliners, concluded his show Sunday night with a plea for women’s rights. He yelled, “Godspeed for Women’s Rights, They Judge You, They Judge Christ,” while wearing a crown made of thorns and fake blood.

Armstrong supported Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 and Bernie Sanders during the 2016 election. Armstrong declared his support for Hillary Clinton after Sanders’ defeat as Democratic nominee. He was hostile to Donald Trump throughout the election and during his administration, labeling him a “fascist” and a “puppet of the Illuminati, “comparing him to Adolf Hitler and blaming his rise to power on “uneducated white working-class people.” He stated in a Rolling Stone interview that he doesn’t support any political party and that he considers himself independent. After Sanders’ loss in the primary, he backed Sanders once more and eventually voted for Joe Biden.

Armstrong declared that he would renounce American citizenship following the Dobbs case. Armstrong was granted honorary citizenship of Viggiano, the Italian municipality where his great-great-grandparents were born, by Viggiano mayor Amedeo Cicala in June 2018. Armstrong is a member of the Board of Directors of Project Chimps, which is a sanctuary for ex-research chimps partially funded by the Humane Society of the United States.
