DC Films’ bat girl, starring Leslie Grace, was to be the next installment in the DC Extended Universe, navigating the life of Barbara Gordon and her journey to becoming the superheroine Batgirl. However, the film has now been removed from the list of films to be released by Warner Bros. bat girl, an HBO Max production for the streaming platform, was directed by Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi who recently rose to fame after their Marvel Phase Four project, Ms. Marvel.

Directors express regret after WB shelves bat girl
Belgian-born, Moroccan-born filmmaking couple Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have carved out a place for themselves in the industry after directing films like Black (2015), Gangster (2018), and bad boys for life (2020). Their recent big-budget Hollywood production under the Marvel franchise, Ms. Marvel, was one of many projects that brought them to the forefront of public fame. However, the equally incredible DC Films project opportunity the pair were meant to bring to the big screen, i.e. bat girl has now been canned by Warner Bros. Discovery.

In the aftermath of this news being made public, the directors were left in considerable shock since they were also unaware of the drastic decision. The movie that was supposed to premiere on HBO Max in 2022 has now been the subject of several fan theories due to its sudden cancellation from WB using it as a tax cut or cost management after their merger. Directors Fallah and El Arbi however expressed their regret saying:
“We are saddened and shocked by the news. We still cannot believe it. As directors, it is essential that our work be shown to the public, and although the film is far from finished, we wish that fans around the world have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film for themselves, maybe one day they will insha’Allah.

Leslie Grace responds to WB’s cancellation bat girl
bat girl was the culmination of 7 months of filming and the dedicated contribution of 27-year-old Latin American singer, songwriter and actress, Leslie Grace. As the first solo superhero role in a major franchise film, it was Grace who took the brunt of the film’s cancellation. However, the actor took to Twitter to address the issue in the most sincere way.
