The Warner Bros franchise. DCEU can be largely attributed to Zack Snyder’s contribution during his formative years. The director extraordinaire had laid the groundwork for the entire DC Extended Universe through his trilogy, i.e. Steel man (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017/2021).

These films not only introduced a world of never-before-seen intertwining plots, narratives, and character arcs, but were too good to be left hanging after their completion. The abdication of Zack Snyder from Warner Bros. and her dream child, Justice Leaguein full production had seen the launch of multiple fan movements and petitions unprecedented in the franchise’s long history.

The convoluted relationship of Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder
The immaculate filmography of director-producer duo Zack Snyder and his partner, Deborah Snyder, had quieted their audience’s unquenchable near-sadistic impulses when the Snyderverse was introduced to DC under their rebooted banner, DC Extended Universe (DCEU for short). The golden era of success and fame that followed the franchise was largely due to the visionary efforts of Zack Snyder and his team of brilliant minds and talented actors.

However, in the aftermath of the ugly falling out between the studio and the director, the franchise pulled together with its projects, some successful, others harshly criticized. Projects like David Ayer’s suicide squad received similar treatment from WB due to excessive censorship and studio manipulation of the director’s final cut. Such incidents have forced the public to then launch social media and internet movements like #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, #RestoreTheSnyderVerseand #ReleaseTheAyerCut at the forefront.

WB would have moved on without Zack Snyder
The Snyderverse has been defined as an alternate version of an American media franchise and shared universe known as the DCEU, centered around a series of superhero films, produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and based on DC comic book characters. Zack Snyder’s vision of an interconnected DC Universe was to span five films, including two post-Justice League movies. However, this was all cut short due to growing creative differences between studio and director.

The intermittent push-and-pull relationship between the two entities has come to a halt, however. Recently, news surfaced that Leslie Iwerks, a documentary filmmaker working on DC history, was briefed by new management at Warner Bros. Justice League.

The report confirms the fears of many DC viewers regarding the state of Snyder and WB’s relationship. After the handover to David Zaslav and the new merger of Warner Bros. Discovery, any bona fide director’s hopes of a return have been dashed. Unfortunately, it seems that the studio has decidedly agreed to move forward without any further involvement from Zack Snyder.
