House Of The Dragon Writer Confirms There Is No On-Screen Sexual Violence
In a recent interview with vanity loungeSara Hess, writer and executive producer of the series, explains how Dragon House will deal with sexual violence against women. Hess also clarifies that there will be no explicit depiction of violence on screen.
“I would like to clarify that we do not depict sexual violence on the show. We deal with an off-screen case and instead show the aftermath and impact on the victim and the abuser’s mother. I think what our show does, and what I’m proud of, is we choose to focus on the violence against women that is inherent in a patriarchal system..”
Dragon Housethe representation of the female characters will be vastly different from that of the game of thrones. Recall that in the first season of the original series, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) was abused by her husband Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa). The same thing happened to Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) when she was raped by Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) after their wedding.
Sexual violence against women is a very serious problem and must be treated with the utmost caution. Now that producers have the assurance that Dragon House will properly handle this issue, fans can only wait for the series to arrive on HBO Max this August 21st.
