bat girl co-director Adil El Arbi has shared Kevin Feige’s response to the film’s cancellation by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Discovery has taken the unprecedented step of canceling the bat girl film although it is almost finished in post-production. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah released a statement earlier this week expressing their disappointment with the decision, and El Arbi shared an email he received from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige regarding the news. on his official Instagram story:
Adil El Arbi also paid tribute to Edgar Wright and James Gunn for their support amid the cancellation of Bat Girl:
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have just experienced an unfortunate event that no filmmaker would ever want to face. Given the scale of this creative disappointment, receiving support from not just Kevin Feige, but also Edgar Wright and James Gunn isn’t all that surprising, especially from Wright and Gunn. As for those two directors, Wright parted ways with Marvel Studios on the original The ant Man due to creative differences, while James Gunn was temporarily fired by Disney from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, what ultimately led him to write/direct The Suicide Squad for DC Films.
In the same way bat girlAdil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were both involved with Marvel Studios, having directed two episodes of Mrs. Marvel. The episodes have received a lot of praise and Kevin Feige is certainly grateful for their contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be interesting to see what the next step will be for the directors. After all, they were behind the biggest box office hit of 2020, bad boys for life, and will likely have the backing of rival studios for any new project they desire.
bat girl was to feature Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, along with JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Keaton is still set to reprise his role as his version of the Caped Crusader in the upcoming film, The flash.
