As the 1999 edition of the Woodstock music festival burned, a Briton, Fatboy Slim, wondered what he had gotten into. The musician, real name Norman Cook, has given a detailed account of what happened on the night of his most terrifying performance.
Limp Bizkit enraged the crowd of nearly 400,000, who then tore down walls and destroyed other podiums throughout the venue. The rave shed was where the furious energy headed for late night entertainment. People were gathered in the area acting in the most hedonistic way.
Although Slim was scheduled to perform the Saturday night track at the 30th anniversary celebration of the original Peace and Love hippie festival held in upstate New York, and the concert was considered one of his most most remarkable, it turned out to be such a tragic event that is still being talked about 23 years later.
It definitely didn’t turn out the way Fatboy Slim had hoped. The documentary describes a staff member working that night as saying he turned on his light on the floor and saw people on all fours engaging in sexual behavior.
Another staff member reported seeing several naked people lined up with their hands against a wall and a line of people behind them, saying the scene was much more debauched than the dark area of Berghain.

The musician still has nightmares of a girl being sexually assaulted that night, which was another horrific incident. A van rammed into the audience while Fatboy Slim was performing at Woodstock in 1999, an incident he called “terrifying”.
During her performance, Cook started playing one of her songs. He had only completed a few runs when he observed a large object moving through the hangar. At first he thought the van was just a dumb addition to the show, like the art cars in Burning Man.
It didn’t take long for this van, which had been stolen by a group of people, to crash into the crowd. Cook admits he was heartbroken by the request to pause the music so they could get the van out of the shed, but he refused as he thought since it was Woodstock it was okay to being criticized during concerts.
After that, he was not well received by the crowd, and they started throwing bottles, cups and other debris at him; it was another recurring motif for the rest of the event.
When the stage manager, AJ Srybnik, arrived he saw a person holding an “old rusty machete”, a boy who was pulling up his pants and a teenage girl who was unconscious and had had her clothes taken off.
