Bryce Evans, a 23-year-old man from Tennessee who has been missing since August 1, was found dead in the Balsam Mountains in North Carolina on August 5.
After leaving for a camping and hiking vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, National Guard member and University of Tennessee student Bryce Evans was reported missing last week.
Evans was last seen in Cherokee, North Carolina on July 31, according to Fox News. When he didn’t return her calls, his parents filed a missing person’s report. On Thursday, his gray 2017 Nissan Ultima was found at the start of a hiking trail.
The investigation into Evans’ cause of death is still ongoing, authorities said.
The disappearance of Bryce Evans
Bryce Evans loved being outdoors. He was an Eagle Scout before beginning his service as a National Outdoorsman.
He had asked his sister, Analise Evans, to hit the gym before traveling to Charlottesville, North Carolina, to enroll in an internship at the University of North Carolina, before disappearing. But according to university records, he never came.
Evans also did not sign up for the gym, according to Scott Erland, a Knoxville police spokesman.
According to The Citizens Times, after discovering Bryce Evans’ car on Heintooga Ridge Road at 7:45 p.m. on August 4, officers blocked off the area and conducted a search of the surrounding area. The Cherokee Fire and Police Departments and the National Park Service all worked together on this project.
The hunt continued on August 5. Responders found Evans’ body off the road around 11:15 a.m. Analiese Evans posted condolences for her brother on social media in response to the discovery.
She said in an Instagram post:
The cause of Evans’ death has yet to be released by authorities.
