Archie Battersbee: How did the teenager die?
Another young person died because of the “Blackout Challenge”. In April of this year, Archie Battersbee took up the challenge. He died four months later.
The 12-year-old boy was found unconscious in his mother’s bedroom and was immediately taken to hospital.
He was put on life support by doctors, but it didn’t help him get better. In May, an MRI showed the child to be “brain dead”. This led to the court ruling that Archie’s life support should be disabled.
In April, Archie Battersbee was taken to the Royal Hospital in London and put on life support. Since May, the parents have been fighting against the court’s decision to stop providing life-saving care.

Hollie Dance, his mother, told the media:
“Sadly, Archie passed away today at 12.15pm.” (August 6). I just want to say that I am the proudest mom in the world. He was a very handsome little boy. He fought until the last moment, and I’m so proud to be his mother.
Ella Carter, a family member, spoke about the child’s death. She said Archie was stable until medical staff “stopped breathing for him, and he turned completely blue.”
Added it:
“It is not at all dignified to see a family member or a child suffocated to death. No family should have to go through what ours went through. It’s cruel.
In recent days, Archie’s family petitioned the High Court to transfer him to a hospice where he could die. But the court disagreed and the child will have to stay at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London.
In a news article, the doctor said continuing to treat the child was “unnecessary” and that there were other ways to help him.
Alistair Chesser, the chief medical officer of the NHS trust, an organization helping Archie Battersbee’s family after his tragic accident, told media the child “died on Saturday afternoon”.
He added:
“Members of his family were at his bedside, and we are thinking of them and sending our deepest condolences at this difficult time.”
He thanked the doctors and nurses at the Royal London Hospital and said they “provided high quality care with extraordinary compassion over a period of months in often difficult and overwhelming circumstances”.
He went on to say that Archie’s accident affected many people across the UK. He said:
“This sad story touched not only the family and the people who cared for him, but also many people across the country.”
Archie Battersbee participated in the “blackout challenge”, which is a very well-known TikTok challenge.
On April 7, Archie’s family found him unconscious in the house. He had a very serious brain injury. His mother believes he took part in the ‘blackout challenge’, which killed more than a few people around the world.
