Rosario Dawson claimed that Jon Bernthal would play The Punisher again, only to debunk his statement hours later.
Several years ago, Marvel Television and Netflix collaborated to bring street-level comic book characters to life in their own shared universe of TV shows. These shows included the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and Defenders. Rosario Dawson was often a major connective tissue character among shows as Claire Temple, while Jon Bernthal debuted as Frank Castle in season 2 of Daredevil.
It’s been a few years since Netflix canceled all of its original streaming content collaborations with Marvel Television, and after years of anticipation, parts of that shared universe are being brought back into the current MCU canon. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio both returned as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin respectively, with Cox appearing in Spider-Man: No Coming Home, and D’Onofrio appearing in Hawk Eye. Both will also appear in Daredevil: born again, a new 18-episode Disney Plus series in development. As for other character returns, Rosario Dawson seemingly revealed Jon Bernthal’s return as The Punisher, but has since debunked the news hours after sharing it.
Rosario Dawson appeared at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo 2022 and shared with participants that she heard Jon Bernthal would be returning as The Punisher in an upcoming MCU project. Naturally, fans were pretty excited, but it seems Dawson shared some false information, debunking his statement a bit later on his official Twitter:
