He was born to the president of the private division of the Chemical Bank Corporation, Anne Brewster, and real estate broker and lawyer, James W. Shue. Andrew was raised with his older sister, Elizabeth Shue, who made a cameo appearance in 1984’s hit ‘Karate Kid’. He is also the brother of the late William Shue and the late John Shue.
Andrew was enrolled at Columbia High School, Maplewood, NJ where he established the Hall of Fame – his sister became a Hall of Famer in 1994. He attended the same high school with future actor/director Zach Braff; they even lived in the same neighborhood.
During his secondary studies, he founded the student group Students Serving Seniors, to help the elderly. President Reagan honored the group with a service award in 1987. Andrew pursued graduate studies in New Hampshire at Dartmouth College and earned a BA in history in 1989.

Andrew was cast in his first film, Aaron Spelling’s ‘Melrose Place’ in 1992 as Billy Campbell, starring Throne Smith (he later dated T. Smith), which made him hugely popular , starring in the soap opera for six years.
Shue later appeared as an abusive husband in Francis F. Coppola’s “The Rainmaker” which starred Claire Danes and Matt Damon. In 1996, Andrew was traded to former SportsCenter correspondent Charley Steiner in a SportsCenter commercial on ESPN – Shue took his position on SportsCentre and Steiner took Shue’s on “Melrose Place”.
In 2007, Andrew worked on the upcoming 2007 ‘Gracie’ film and established Usra Major Films with his brother John, sister Elizabeth and Oscar-winning ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ director and brother-in-law Davis Guggenheim. He co-produced “Gracie” and played a minor role.
The film was created to pay tribute to his brother Will, who died in 1998 in a road accident. The film follows Elisabeth’s childhood storyline, in which she appears as the only girl to play in a men’s soccer team.
