Batgirl gets fired by the studio
On the warpath, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav has canceled DC movies left and right, including the highly anticipated bat girl. During the company’s second quarter earnings call last Thursday, the CEO of Warner Bros. commented on the cancellation, he said:
“We’re not going to release a movie to make a quarter and we’re not going to release a movie unless we believe it.”

Produced on a budget of $90 million, the film was canceled on August 2 and won’t even see a release on HBO Max. Some early reports indicated that screening tests for bat girl resulted in the film being called “unsalvageable”.
Kevin Smith calls out WB for shelving bat girl
intervening in the conversation, super girl director Kevin Smith was disappointed with Warner Bros.’ decision. In his Youtube show, “Hollywood Babbler”he called the decision “an incredibly evil lookfor the studio, he further stated:
“I don’t give as if the movie [Batgirl] was absolute dog shit – I guarantee it wasn’t. The two directors who made this film did a few episodes of ‘Ms. Marvel,” and it was a wonderful fucking show and they had more money to do “Batgirl” than they had to do an episode of “Ms. Marvel” and all that.

He continued to criticize the studio, questioning the decision as they stuck with Ezra Miller’s The Flash despite their radioactivity, but dropped a DC film headlined by Latin actor Leslie Grace. Since last year, Ezra Miller has been at the center of multiple controversies ranging from physical assault to the grooming of minors.
Recently, the actor reportedly founded a cult in Iceland and wandered around in full armor loaded with guns and ammunition. Accordingly, the decision to proceed with the flash despite having a controversial lead actor left Kevin Smith furious.
“That’s the confusing thing. I don’t care how bad the movie ‘Batgirl’ is, no one in that movie is complicated or has anything in their real life that you have to market to. In the movie ‘The Flash’, we all know there’s a big problem! Flash is the Reverse-Flash in real life.
Although WB chief David Zaslav clarified that bat girl was shelved due to quality issues, it was targeted online for deliberately targeting Latin American superhero-led films while giving free rein to someone like Ezra Miller. With the flash Still on track for release next year, the current storyline doesn’t look good for Zaslav and WB Discovery at the moment.
the flash is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2023.
