Watching Lord of the Rings for the first time
In his podcast interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson confessed that he felt bad about not being able to enjoy the movies like a fan would. Years of working on the trilogy deprived him of the opportunity to look at it with fresh eyes.
“When we did Lord of the Rings movies, I always felt like I was the unlucky person who never got to see an out-of-the-ordinary movie. When there were screenings, I was immersed in them for five or six years. It was such a loss for me not to be able to see them like everyone else.”
The director, in fact, considered going to great lengths, such as undergoing hypnosis to erase his memories of the movies.
“I actually seriously considered going to a hypnotherapist to hypnotize me and make me forget about the movies and the work I had been doing for the past six or seven years so I could sit back and enjoy them . I did not follow up, but I spoke to [British mentalist] Derren Brown on it, and he thought he could do it.”
With the upcoming television adaptation of rings of power, Jackson says he’s thrilled to see him. Now, this will hopefully grant the director’s wish to see all things LOTR for the first time.
