5 Franchises That Need The Prey Treatment

Taking the risk of going back three hundred years and almost reverting the Predator to a more primitive, less advanced state has done wonders for the franchise, and it’s a lesson that many studio executives could learn and apply to their own franchises, so here are five franchises that need the Prey treatment.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, you may have seen the latest release in the Predator franchise, Prey. Released straight to Hulu and Disney+, there wasn’t much buzz around it until the review embargo was lifted, and everyone seemed to like it.

5. Alien

The first in the list of franchises that need the Prey treatment, is a legendary franchise that has been around for nearly fifty years at this point, the first Extraterrestrial film a terrified audience, some come out and others vomit or pass out. Tamed by today’s standards, at least in the graphic nature of what’s on screen, it still comes across as a particularly fantastic film. His sequel aliens amped it all up to ten and then we were unfortunately subjected to one bad sequel after another. Maybe it will change, maybe it won’t, but for me, I want more of the original and less of the third or fourth.

4. Terminator

A T-800 from the Terminator franchise.

In another franchise involving James Cameron, the first and second films were both brilliant, however, it seemed to go off the rails with the third, and it wasn’t until recently dark fate kinda bring it back a little bit. With considerably more complex lore than the Predator franchise, it would be hard to do on a smaller scale. terminator movie, but the first one worked, so why not try again?

3. Die hard

the original die hard and its sequel die hard 2 will always be two of the best action movies released. Around the premise of one man in John McClane being the only one who can fight and fight his way through German robbers in the first, and traitorous American soldiers in the second, the films are packed with action, blood and endlessly quotable. -liners. The third sequel was good, but the fourth and fifth were terrible, and it’s another one of the franchises that will desperately need the Prey treatment.

2. Hannibal Lecter Franchise

five franchises that need the prey treatment

Less a franchise with several mediocre entries, and more a franchise that hasn’t had an entry in a while, we’ve been long overdue for another show involving the polished cannibal. The last time we saw Hannibal Lecter was the recent TV show Hannibal with Mads Mikkelsen in the lead role. Sadly canceled before it was completed, I would love a new take on the story, and hope it stays as faithful as the excellent show.

1. Friday the 13th/Nightmare on Elm Street

franchises that need prey treatment

I lumped these two together for obvious reasons, but it’s a far cry from saying that they’re definitely two franchises that need the Prey treatment. Recently we’ve had new entries in the horror franchises Scream, Chainsaw Massacre, and Halloween, with mixed results. In 2009, both of these properties got their own reboots, but both were ridiculously bad. Maybe it’s been long enough now that we can get another smaller scale attempt with them? Or maybe modern audiences just aren’t afraid of these hulking but campy serial killers.

So there you have it, these are my picks for five franchises that need the Prey treatment, what would you have added? What did I miss?
