Why was Jon Jones arrested? Combatant’s Accusations and Allegations
On September 24, 2021, right after the UFC Hall of Fame celebration, Jon Jones was detained in Las Vegas.
The charges against the athlete include misdemeanor assault, domestic violence and bodily harm or tampering with a vehicle.
The fighter’s headbutt followed by an explosion resulted in a “medium sized dent as well as peeling some of the paint on the vehicle”, which triggered the vehicle’s charge.
Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas received a call from police reporting a domestic disturbance. His fiancee, Jesse Moses, reportedly had blood coming from her mouth and nose. She then gave a statement to the police in which she admitted that her fiancé had made slight physical contact with her in front of their three children.
He allegedly resisted arrest, which led to his detention and transport to prison.
Video of UFC fighter Jon Jones headbutting Vegas PD officer
In recent video, Jon Jones is seen headbutting a police vehicle while being detained on the Las Vegas Strip in September.
Jones was staying at Caesar’s Palace with his family so they could attend the festivities after being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
The UFC fighter was arrested when his youngest child asked for help due to a confrontation between him and his girlfriend, Jessie Moses, and Caesars hotel security personnel called 911 .
After a night out with his buddies, Jon reportedly returned to his hotel room upset, according to a police report MMA Fighting was able to obtain at the time. When she tried to leave the room, Moses said Jon had pulled her hair and their three children were in the room.
The Review-Journal uploaded a four-plus-minute YouTube video of the arrest.
On camera, the athlete repeatedly refers to a police officer as “Officer Nerd” and implies that the arrest was made because the man is “tall and black”. Jones bangs his head on the police cruiser as his anger grows, producing a “medium sized dent” on the hood.
After posting bail, Jon Jones was released the very evening of his arrest. He later entered a nolo contendere plea to a lesser misdemeanor charge of destruction of property.
He agreed to pay $750 in compensation after pleading guilty to one count of destroying someone else’s property.
Since defeating Dominick Reyes in February 2020 and relinquishing the light heavyweight championship, he had not committed to the fight.
Since then, the former UFC champion has suggested a move up to heavyweight and, based on a number of upbeat social media posts, appears to be in good spirits.
