Jason Momoa recently explained how Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will explore real-world environmental issues.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom sees Momoa return to the DC role he last played in 2018 Aquaman. The film will see Momoa’s Arthur Curry find new allies to help save Atlantis and the world from devastation.
Speaking recently about the upcoming DC movie, Jason Momoa revealed that this impending devastation could be a threat not too far removed from real-world dangers to Earth.
Speaking to GQ recently, Jason Momoa shared a preview of what audiences can expect to see in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The actor spoke about the importance of superhero movies in theaters right now and highlighted the medium’s ability to deliver positive messages. In particular, Momoa pointed to Aquaman’s particular ability to hold a mirror up to real-world environmental issues.
Speaking of the relevance of Aquaman following the issues facing the world today, Jason Momoa said:
“These superhero movies are dominating our market, which I have my own opinion on because I love movies, but we’re trying to get a positive message across and go on an adventure. Aquaman is the superhero the most ridiculous in the world. But it’s amazing to be able to bring awareness to what is happening on our planet. This is not a story that has been told over and over, [it’s a] film about what is happening right now, but in a fantasy world.
The actor went on to say that “we can really accelerate what’s going to happen on this earth, and it’s not because of aliens.” Superhero stories have often had messages to convey about issues facing the real world, whether it’s Captain America battling Nazism or the X-Men conquering prejudice, and it sounds like Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will continue this tradition.
