Catering and Culinary Institute
Once out of the army, she started a catering business and struck a deal with the New York Lollapalooza festival, providing food. She was getting more successful every day and in no time she started serving big rock bands like the Rolling Stones and the Eagles. To gain more knowledge and skills, Koren entered the Culinary Institute of America where she was mentored by Paul Kahan, an award-winning chef. She graduated in 1997 and continued to work under Paul Kahan for the next five years as Sous Chef at the Blackbird Restaurant.
Become famous
Karen moved from Kahan to Michael Mina, with whom she worked at Aqua in San Francisco. However, in 2003, she joined Paul Kahan to create the Avec wine bar. After years of hard work, she was named Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine in 2008, honored for creating delicious Mediterranean dishes at the restaurant. In 2010, she was named the winner of the James Beard Award, which opened many more doors for her. She became manager of La Claudette then in 2015 manager of Rusto, but only held this position for six months.

Anne W. Burrell was born on September 21, 1969 in Cazenovia, New York State, United States. Before pursuing a culinary education, she went to Canisius College in Buffalo, from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communication in 1991.
