Doreen Lioy and Richard Ramirez romance
Despite his notoriety, when Richard was arrested and taken to trial, he attracted a wide variety of fans, and one of them was Doreen. She became infatuated with him and began sending him letters, around age 75 during his imprisonment, and began visiting him in prison. The two developed a strong bond, which eventually resulted in a marriage. She visited him up to four times a week, and the two began a romance – in 1998 Richard asked her to marry him, and in 1996 the two were married in San Quentin State Prison in California.
Over the years, Doreen became one of his main advocates and opposed his death sentence and, along with other of his supporters, advocated for a reduced sentence. As her life story became more and more intriguing to the public, she began to be featured in various documentaries about her lover, including “Biography” (2001) and “THS Investigates” in 2005. Through her fight against Richard’s execution, the sentence was delayed almost indefinitely, and Richard eventually died of B-cell lymphoma at age 53, at Marin General Hospital.

Biography of Richard Ramirez
Born Ricardo Leyva Munoz Ramirez on February 29, 1960 in El Paso, Texas, USA, he became known as the Night Stalker, a convicted serial killer, burglar and rapist, terrorizing the people of Los Angeles and San Francisco from June 1984 to August 1985. .
He was the youngest of five children born to Julian, a Mexican policeman, and his wife Mercedes Ramirez. At just ten years old, Richard developed an addiction to marijuana, but began to bond with his cousin Mike, who was a decorated veteran of the United States Army Green Beret. Mike often bragged to Richard about his actions in Vietnam, including the raping of women. Richard took him as a role model and began to learn various military skills from Mike. On May 4, 1973, Mike shot his wife Jessie, and Richard was in their home when it happened. After that, Richard started living with his older sister and her husband, wanting to avoid contact with the rest of his family. He started using LSD and became interested in Satanism.
He went to Jefferson High School but quit in ninth grade.
Richard started working at a local Holiday Inn, but it didn’t last long as he was caught by a man whose wife he was trying to rape, beat Richard senseless at the scene. They filed charges against Richard, but the case was dropped as the couple lived out of state and decided not to return to testify.
First murder and killing
In April 1984, he killed a 9-year-old girl, Mei Leung; he dragged her to the basement of the hotel where he lived, raped and beat the girl before stabbing her to death and leaving her body hanging from a pipe. At first he was unrelated to this case, but later his DNA was discovered at the crime scene.
His first identified murder in the Night Stalker crimes happened in June 1984 when Jennie Vincow was found in her apartment – she was stabbed and had her throat slit, nearly decapitated, and her fingerprints were found at the scene of the crime. From June 1984 to August 1985, he killed 14 people, while others survived his attacks, including a couple from Northridge, California, Chris and Virginia Peterson. He shot Virginia in the face with a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun and shot Chris in the temple, but they survived and Richard escaped.
Capture, Condemnation, Death
On August 30, 1985, Ramirez traveled to see his brother in Tucson, Arizona; however, they did not meet, and he returned to Los Angeles the following morning.
As he left traces at crime scenes, the police knew who he was and he was wanted all over the United States. He became a major story of every newspaper, and a few older Mexican women recognized him, calling him “El Matador” (the killer).
He fled the store and attempted to hijack a car, but passers-by noticed him and began a chase. He was eventually hit in the head with a metal bar by a man from the group of people who chased him, ending the chase. They beat him relentlessly until the police arrived and took him into custody. During his first court appearance, Richard shouted “Hail Satan” and had a pentagram drawn on his hand.
He was charged with thirteen counts of murder, five attempted murders, eleven sexual assaults and fourteen burglaries – on November 7, 1989 he was sentenced to death. After the death sentence, Richard said, “Big Deal. Death has always gone with the territory. See you at Disneyland.” The entire lawsuit cost $1.8 million, which at the time was the most expensive lawsuit in California history.
However, numerous appeals from his fans, his lawyers and his future wife delayed his death sentence, and Richard eventually died of B-cell lymphoma at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, California on June 7, 2013. He also had chronic hepatitis C. viral infection and over the years developed a chronic drug addiction. He had awaited the execution of his death sentence for more than 23 years.
During his mental health evaluation, Richard was determined to be a primary psychopath and also had narcissistic personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder, in addition to other mental health issues. He was also diagnosed with schizophrenia – his use of LSD, cocaine and PCP only made the situation worse.
