The Duffer Brothers reveal they plan to focus on the current cast for the highly anticipated Stranger things 5.
Netflix’s hit series stranger things was perhaps the summer’s champion when it comes to TV series’ stranglehold on popular culture. Both volumes of the fourth season broke many records for the service, and it set up an exciting final season that the Duffer Brothers are currently working hard to write. It’s safe to say that stranger things 5 will be quite the business.
After the first season of stranger things dropped on Netflix in 2016, each season introduced important new characters to the cast. Season 2 introduced Sadie Sink, Dacre Montgomery, Brett Gelman, and Priah Ferguson as Max Mayfield, Billy Hargrove, Murray Bauman, and Erica Sinclair, respectively, while Season 3 introduced Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley and season 4 introduced a new fan favorite. Joseph Quinn as Eddie Munson. However, it seems the Duffer Brothers want to move away from that trope, in favor of focusing on the remaining cast for Stranger Things 5:
Ross Duffer: “Every time we introduce a new character, we want to make sure they’re an integral part of the story. So it’s something with Eddie this season, where we’re going, ‘Well, we need a character here to make this story really work, and to give it the drive it needs.’ But every time we do that, we get nervous, because you’re like, ‘We’ve got a great cast of characters here, and actors, and every moment we get together with a new character, we take time one of the other actors. So we’re very, very careful who we present to. And then specifically in the casting process, it took a long time to find Joe Quinn, and you go through so many edits, because you know we can’t add someone who’s just going to take away from our characters s ‘they’ is not great.
Matt Duffer: “And the same was true with Sadie and Maya. And it’s not like the actors don’t know [either]. They all know they’re getting into a cast that people love, and you’re introducing a new element. And you’ve seen him on shows that go bad, and so they’re all nervous, but like Ross said, with those three in particular, and Dacre [Mongomery] also, who played Billy, it was like, because these actors are amazing, it’s really fun. I just like to shake it up, so we shake it up by changing the plot or adding a new monster. We do our best to resist [adding new characters] for season 5. We’re trying not to do that so we can focus on the OG characters, I guess.
Here is the synopsis of the fourth season of The Duffer Brothers stranger things:
“It has been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Grappling with the consequences, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made it any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a horrifying new supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, could finally bring an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.
Created by the Duffer Brothers, the Netflix series stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, Brett Gelman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco and Joseph Quinn.
