The search for a new James Bond continues, and sadly for Henry Cavill fans, the actor may no longer be worth considering. With the release of no time to die and Daniel Craig bidding farewell to the role of Agent 007, many have since wondered who will take on the role of Bond in future installments of the franchise. According to producer Barbara Broccoli, who previously expressed her intention to “reinvent” the franchise, the search for a new Bond is difficult and can “take time.”

With recent reports, many potential casting choices have now been unofficially declared out of the running. Suitors like Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, Matthew Goode and Sam Heughan might just be out of the equation, and the reason behind that? Their age.

When it comes to who is backing Henry Cavill as the next Bond, the actor is quite a popular choice among fans and the general public. Following a No. 1 Botanicals herbal drinks advert where the actor was seen donning a classic suit and walking past a parked silver Aston Martin, the actor’s support as Agent 007 increased tenfold as many felt the ad was playing a James Bond-esque theme.
However, following a recent report by Express UK, entertainment journalist Ross King has shared some insight into the criteria involved in selecting the next Bond cast. According to these rumors, the list of candidates has now shrunk.

Here’s what King had to say:
“The latest rumor, and in some ways some of it is completely true, is basically that the Bond producers are looking for a younger Bond. Someone probably in their thirties. Ultimately, they want someone who will be Bond for the next three movies.
According to him, the producers of the franchise are looking for someone who would be able to carry on the legacy of Daniel Craig and who could be used for the next episodes of James Bond. This decision on behalf of the producers seems quite logical, as a young person would be better able to cement the future of the franchise. In the past, most james bond the films featured actors who were quite old when they took on the role of the spy extraordinaire.

Breaking tradition seems a logical step to reinvent the franchise and allow for concrete future projects. The decision, however, has led many to believe that Bridgerton actor Regé-Jean Page will be the one to triumph over all the other choices, as he is only 34 and fits the latest casting parameters. Sadly, Henry Cavill fans aren’t happy with this recent development, as this casting framework rules out the possibility of the 39-year-old Cavill playing the role of the next Bond.
